Wayne Campbell from Purdue University in the US said that most researches study the effects of sleep on diet and weight control, but their research turned over that concern to ask what are the consequences of diet and weight loss, particularly the amount of protein, on your sleep.

Campbell further said in a paper published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition that they discovered that consuming a diet of lower calories with a higher amount of protein led to an improvement in sleep quality for middle-aged people. This sleep quality is better in comparison to those who shed the same amount of weight while consuming a normal quantity of protein.

The research examined 44 obese or overweight participants who consumed either a higher-protein or normal-protein diet for weight loss. People who participated, completed a survey to rate their sleep quality every month all through the research. The study’s results proved that those who consumed more protein at the time of reducing their weight reported a better sleep quality following three or four months of dietary interruption.

According to Campbell, “This research adds sleep quality to the growing list of positive outcomes of higher-protein intake while losing weight and those other outcomes include promoting body fat loss, retention of lean body mass and improvements in blood pressure.”
