Loss of Libido: Causes and Solutions

Loss of libido is typically recognized as a sexual dysfunction, a low sex drive, or simply a lack of interest in sexual activity. It is a common state of erectile dysfunction in males but it is, however, more common, in women than it is in men and there are a lot of factors that come in to play which are responsible for causing it.

Causes of loss of libido

There are several causes of the loss of libido. They can either be physical or psychological or a combination of the two.

1. Physical causes :

i. Hormonal imbalance
ii. Erectile dysfunction
iii. Restless legs syndrome (RLS)
iv. Lack of sleep
v. Too little or excess exercise
vi. Prescription medicines
vii. Alcohol abuse
viii. Drug abuse
ix. Aging
x. Menopause
xi. Systemic illnesses, for instance, cancer or lung disease

2. Psychological causes :

i. Depression
ii. Stress
iii. Low self-esteem
iv. Relationship problems and issues

Solutions

Solutions and treatments can differ and vary greatly based on the nature and intensity of the root cause of the problem, whether it is physical or psychological. Here are a few possible ways in which you can deal with the loss of libido:

1. Improve your diet to include more nutrients
2. Get at least 6 to 7 hours of sleep everyday
3. Exercise for at least 40 minutes, four times a week
4. Cut down on the use of drugs and alcohol consumption
5. Testosterone replacement therapy
6. Wise and calculated use of antidepressants as they can lower your sex drive further (if the cause of low libido is depression)
7. Regular counseling, either alone or with your partner
