Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), is marked as a serious condition where a person, after witnessing or experiencing a horrifying or traumatic event, can develop unnatural mental health conditions. The traumatic event can include sexual assault, traffic collisions, warfare or a potential danger to a person’s life. PTSD is a culmination stage of all harrowing ordeals that can result in a feeling of helplessness, fear, or horrors like physical or sexual assault, or even a surprise demise of a loved one.
Someone suffering from PTSD often finds an escape in the form of flashbacks, nightmares and may develop a sense of isolation, guilt, and irritability. They may also develop such problems as a feeling of insomnia along with a sense of indecisiveness and restlessness.
PTSD symptoms are often categorized into four main types:
People suffering from PTSD constantly relieve the trauma through memories and thoughts of the incident. It may include hallucinations, flashbacks, and nightmares.
2. Negative Mood and Conditions:
This alludes to feelings and thoughts in relation with the past memories of the traumatic incident, estrangement and blame.
The person may begin to ignore people that he/she is surrounded with, situations or even thoughts that may take him/her back to that traumatic event. This can result in a feeling of isolation, detachment from friends and family.
The major treatments for post-traumatic disorder are medications and psychotherapy…
Prazosin and antidepressants medicine, like paroxetine (Paxil), medications sertraline (Zoloft) and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) help you get rid of the problem of insomniac and suppress nightmares to give you a sound sleep. But these drugs should not be taken for a long period of time.
This form of therapy is used to cure both mental health conditions (like obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety and depression) as well as emotional problems. The treatment is performed by skilled mental health experts who listen to you patiently and provide you with effective strategies to give solutions to your problems.
Post traumatic stress disorder should not be overlooked. It needs expert medical assistance.
