Dental Implants are surgically placed artificial tooth root into the jawbone beneath your gums. This provides a permanent base for the crowns or false teeth and holds them in place just as the root supports the natural teeth structure. Dental implants are for the people who have lost teeth in some periodontal disease or an accident.
Types of Dental Implants-
There are two types of dental implants naming:
- Endosteal Implant: This is the most often and most common used implant. These are directly implanted into the jawbone. Once the gum is healed post is placed into it followed by the artificial teeth and bridged on a denture.
- Subpriosteal Implants: It consist of a metal frame chiefly made up of titanium, is fitted onto the jawbone just beneath the gum tissues. The framework’s post obtrudes out through the gum to hold the prosthesis in place. This implant favors to those who have lesser bone height and are tired of wearing conventional dentures.
Can Anyone Get Dental Implants?
In most cases, anyone healthy enough to undergo a routine dental extraction or oral surgery can be considered for a dental implant. Patients should have healthy gums and enough bone to hold the implant. They also must be committed to good oral hygiene and regular dental visits. Heavy smokers, people suffering from uncontrolled chronic disorders — such as diabetes or heart disease — or patients who have had radiation therapy to the head/neck area need to be evaluated on an individual basis. If you are considering implants, talk to your dentist.
What’s the procedure be like?
Different people have different conditions to treat with. Some of them are listed here:
- Single Tooth Replacement: For a single tooth a single crown implant will do a world of good to you.
- Multiple Teeth Replacement: There are implant supported bridges that can hold multiple teeth.
- Sinus Implant: Sinus augmentation technique refer to the bone development where the implant is to be placed such as in the upper jawbone where there is insufficient bone quantity.
- Ridges: Deformation or defects in the bones cannot lead to successful implant. In this case the gum is lifted from the ridge to expose the defect. These defects are then treated with ridge modification and lead to bonier content and with that a successful implant can be done.
