The chemical peel is a procedure done to improve your skin’s appearance. This treatment uses a chemical solution which causes the skin to blister and finally peel off. The new skin is usually less wrinkled and smoother than the old skin. Here is everything you need to know about the chemical peel procedure:

How to prepare for a chemical peel?

  1. Discuss Medical History: Tell your doctor about any scarring, facial X-rays and recurring cold sores. You also need to tell your doctor about which medicines you take as he may want you to stop taking certain drugs.
  2. Take those medications which the doctor prescribes: Retin-A, glycolic acid and other drugs may be prescribed for the chemical peel which you must take.
  3. Decide upon the depth of your peel: Depending on the condition of your skin, you can consult a doctor on how deep your chemical peel should be.

Procedure-

  1. Cleaning the skin: The doctor will first clean the skin so that there are no complications from the treatment.
  2. Applying Chemicals: Chemicals such as lactic acid, salicylic acid and carbolic acid will then be applied which create a controlled wound that allows new skin to take its place.
  3. Cold Compress: Finally, the doctor will apply a cool compress to help relieve the burning and stinging sensation from the chemical peel. Pain medication may also need to be taken.
