What is Low sex drive?
Low sex drive, also known as Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD), is a condition that is characterised by the lowering urge to engage in any form of sexual activity or have sex. It is a very common phenomenon and is seen to happen to almost every person at some point of time in their lives. Although, if this dry spell prolongs, you may need medical attention for the same. Statistically, women are more prone to low libido than men.
Low libido in women does not exclusively include the physicality of sex alone; it also involves various other factors like brain research, feelings and hormones which are unreliable. Women experience a whirlwind of emotions and feelings which can be directly related to the levels of hormones in the body. Dropping levels of oestrogen can be responsible for several mood swings and can also reduce sex drive in women.
The most common causes of low libido in women are:
e. Hysterectomy (Removal of uterus and ovaries)
f. Anxiety and Stress
h. Anti- Hypertensive and analgesics
i. History of sexual, physical or mental abuse
j. Drugs, smoking and alcohol
k. Birth- control pills
Other factors that may affect sex drive in women can be trauma, illness, low energy levels, lack of privacy with the partner, lack of intimacy with partner, stress at work etc.
How can we deal with low sex drive with home remedies?
1. Bananas: This fruit is rich in Vitamin B and Potassium, the minerals that are required in the synthesis and production of sex hormones in the body. Consume one banana everyday for at least one month to feel the benefits.
2. Ashwagandha: Take medicines with ‘ashwagandha’ as an active ingredient. This drug is well known for its quality of increasing libido.
3. Avocado: It is known for its aphrodisiac properties. It is rich in folic acid, vitamin B6 and potassium that help increase libido. It is also known to increase thyroid function which in turn also increases female libido.
