Acne Prevention & Skin Care Tips

Acne is a skin condition which occurs when there is an obstruction in the skin pores. These pores are the orifices that secrete oil to keep the skin hydrated. However, the blocking of skin pores due to the accumulation of oil and dead skin cells which appear as a plug on top of the pores.

Problem on your Skin-

Acne is characterized by the formation of pimples on your face, neck, chest and back. If the pimples get infected, there might be inflammation and even cause pain. In extreme conditions, there can be numerous pimples on your whole body which can be a rather embarrassing affair for the affected person. It is a fairly common skin condition in teenagers and can also occur in adult women just before the start of their menstrual periods.

What Causes Acne Breakouts?

Breakouts occur when dead skin cells clump together and mix with sebum (natural oil) in the pore. When these blocked secretions mix with bacteria, they form pimples.


The causes of acne formation are as follows:

  1. As a side effect of certain medications like lithium and corticosteroids.
  2. As a result of certain disorders of the endocrine system like Cushing’s syndrome and Polycystic ovary syndrome.
  3. Acne can also occur due to excessive usage of cosmetics.
  4. Over-consumption of fast foods and fried foods.
  5. Excess consumption of sugar in the form of sweets or the consumption of carbonated sweetened beverages.
  6. Hormonal disorders within the body among others.

Prevention and Remedies-

If you take adequate care of your skin a breakout can be prevented. Here are the ways to do so:

  • You should try to prevent your skin from any type of direct contact with the sun.
  • You should wash your skin every day but overdo it.
  • You should avoid hair care products like gels or creams that are rich in oil content.
  • It is not advisable to touch your face too often.
  • Avoid close contact with oil and chemicals like petroleum.
  • If you have oily hair, you should wash it frequently and make sure that the hair does not touch your face too often.
