Cancer – Ayurvedic Approach For It!

Cancer – Ayurvedic Approach For It!

By Dr. Hiren Raval, Ayurveda

Indian oncologist, Siddhartha Mukherjee, in his groundbreaking work ‘The Emperor of All Maladies: a Biography of Cancer ’, describes cancer as “… an expansionist disease. It invades through tissues, sets up colonies in hostile landscapes, seeking “sanctuary” in one organ and then immigrating to another. It lives desperately, fiercely, defensively and territorially—at times, as if teaching us how to survive. To confront cancer is to encounter a parallel species, one perhaps more adapted to survival than even we are.”

The term Ayurveda might be translated to “the science of life.” Thus, Ayurveda does not just deal with the treatment of the physical body. Along with that, it also focuses on balancing and harmonizing all aspects of a person’s mind, body, soul, and spirit as well as that of the society as a whole.

In Ayurveda, a person is pictured as being composed of five primal natural elements: ether (or space), fire, water, air, and earth.

These crucial elements manifest and combine in the body in certain physiological ways. The order in which these elements coalesce while expressing themselves are referred to as the Doshas − Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

The main goal of Ayurvedic therapy is to find the ultimate cause of an illness or seeking its roots. The therapeutic approach of Ayurveda is divided into four categories as Prakritisthapanichikitsa (health maintenance), Rasayanachikitsa (restoration of normal function), Roganashanichikitsa (disease cure) and Naishthikichikitsa (spiritual approach).

Ayurvedic Treatment of Cancer
Treatment of cancer through Ayurveda is widely regarded as being very complex in its approach and process.Adopting a detoxifying diet, along with the introduction of cleansing herbs into the blood stream is a crucial and vital part of the treatment. Circulatory stimulant herbs are also sometimes prescribed in order to help promote circulation along with shifting stagnation of the blood while increasing the efficient elimination of toxins.

These herbs also assist in healing the tissues-

Some immunity restoring herbs and minerals may also be given to help boost the strength and vitality of debilitated patients. Herbs such as the Andrographispaniculata, Annona atemoya, Phyllanthusniruri, Piper longum, Podophyllumhexandrum, Prosopis cineraria, etc. help with total healing, reducing the side effects of medications and cancer-associated complications.

It is widely discussed and believed that a crucial part of treatment is also the relaxation of the mind. Suppression of emotions or emotional stagnation is a significant causative factor and a major obstacle in effective treatment of cancer. Meditation, counseling, yoga, pranayama and the studying of spiritual philosophy are all recommended by practitioners for support in this aspect of personal healing.

Ayurvedic treatment for cancer is an excellent adjunct to any healing journey and its contribution to what we now call the modern science of natural healing is beyond comparison.
