The scrotum is a skin tissue or a sac that withholds your testicles. Many veins do pass through them and they give out the blood to the reproductive organs. A vein abnormality or a condition in such veins can result in varicocele. A varicocele is a swelling of the veins that occurs within the scrotum. They are very similar to varicose veins except that they occur in your scrotum. Let us have a further look at its symptoms and conditions.
A varicocele condition:
A varicocele can result in a reduction in your sperm count and quality. In many cases, your testicles can shrink in size and can result in infertility. They occur in about 15% of the male population and they occur during puberty when the testicles and the reproductive organs start to enlarge. About in 95% of the cases, they occur on either one side of the scrotum. It is very rare that it occurs on both the sides.
How does a Varicocele Develop?
The testicles are held up by a chord known as a spermatic chord. The chords also contain a mix of veins, arteries, and nerves. In some cases, if the blood does not move enough through these veins it can lead to swelling and stagnations. These results in varicocele and the enlarged symptoms affect your testicular glands.
Some of the common symptoms can include a lump in your testicles, swelling in the scrotum and a dull pain that occurs throughout the day in your scrotum region. Also, you can visibly notice twisted and enlarged veins in your scrotum region. Not all varicocele cases lead to infertility but some actually do. Also, the loss of blood in your reproductive organs can indirectly lead to other complications which need to be treated in time. Left testicular pain suggests varicocele, which can be diagnosed with the help of Testicular ultrasound.
Treatment for Varicocele:
In many cases, the vein complications are minor and they do not require any treatment or medication. Though it may not go away you can choose to live with the condition. The treatment plan is usually recommended when the varicocele causes pain and discomfort. Also, you might have to go for treatments if the varicocele is the cause of your infertility.
There are three ways that can help deal with varicocele naturally are yoga, lifestyle and diet.
- Yoga: Yoga can go a long way in treating Varicocele effectively. There are various yogasanas like dhanurasana, padmasana, vajrasana, shavasana and matsyasana that improve blood circulation which in turn reduces stagnation.
- Lifestyle changes: There are certain lifestyle changes that can help in preventing varicocele from increasing further. Quitting smoking, reducing the consumption of alcohol, avoiding lubricants and exercising daily are some the changes that can assist in reducing the effect of varicocele.
- Diet: Maintaining a proper diet can aid in the management of varicocele. There are a number of foods that are best avoided including junk food, margarine, processed foods, sugar, caffeine and hydrogenated oils. Include the foods that contain flavonoids as they strengthen the blood vessels. Including food items such as fish, whole grains, olive oil, poultry foods, essential fatty acids, flaxseed oil, fresh fruits and vegetables to your daily diet is highly recommended. High fiber content food items will help in the normal functioning of the digestive tract.
With the help of Ayurvedic remedies, the problem of varicocele can be cured permanently as compared to surgery as with surgery there is a chance of reoccurence of problem and also surgery is not a very cost effective solution. Do check with your Ayurvedic doctor for the best treatment plan.
