Ayurveda is a holistic method of treatment that is natural and free from side effects unlike conventional treatment methods. These treatments focus on getting rid of the cause of the disease instead of just treating the symptoms.
The factors that are responsible for the birth of a healthy child are a healthy sperm count and sperm motility, healthy ovum and a normal functioning uterus. Good reproductive health depends on ‘shukra dhatu’ or the reproductive tissue. The health of the tissues is dependent on factors such as the food you eat, a healthy digestive function, blood, muscles and fat. The health of these tissues is also dependent on other tissues of the body.
According to Ayurveda, you can consume herbs and foods to boost reproductive tissues in the body, thus resulting in enhanced fertility. There are six other ‘dhatus’ which also must be in a healthy state in order to ensure healthy reproductive tissues. A diet called the ‘bruhana’ diet helps in providing nourishment to these ‘dhatus’ or tissues. Before conception ‘Beejshuddhi’ is required. Removing toxins from ovum and sperm with the help of detoxification processes i.e. Panchakarma is essential. After that to improve endometrial thickness and blood flow , localised treatment of ‘uttarbasti ‘ i.e. installation of sterilized medicated oil or ghee inside the uterus is necessary. These processes will lead to healthy offspring. Foods that nourish the various ‘dhatus’ include:
- Whole grains
- Organic and fresh vegetables
- Soaked walnuts and almonds
- Dry fruits such as dates and figs
- Protein based foods like cottage cheese and milk
- Whole grains such as wheat and rice
- Fruits such as mangoes and pears
Apart from these foods, there are certain foods that help in strengthening the reproductive tissues in the body, them being:
- Rice pudding
- Certain spices such as cumin, turmeric and cumin
Necessary Lifestyle Changes-
Incorporating certain lifestyle changes can help boost fertility and increase your chances of conceiving. Clock the required hours of sleep every day and focus on keeping yourself stress-free. Avoid skipping meals and drink sufficient water (about 2-3 liters) to keep your body well- nourished and adequately hydrated.
