As per Ayurveda, hair type is directly related to the body type, which is subdivided into three categories – Pitta, Vata and Kapha. Each has its own features and different reasons for hair loss. Ayurveda follows a holistic approach and comprises of three main concepts – “Ahar” (food which can be utilized as a preventive medicine), “Chikitsa” (self-support and care) and “Nidana” (Treatment).

Loss of hair is believed to be due to “pitta” dosha. Governance of digestion and metabolism is done by Pitta. A healthy body is a result of a balanced pitta and once the reasons for pitta dosha is identified; it is easier to perform any correction. Usually anxiety, stress and bad eating habits lead to pitta dosha, which in turn causes hair loss.
