As per Ayurveda, hair type is directly related to the body type, which is subdivided into three categories – Pitta, Vata and Kapha. Each has its own features and different reasons for hair loss. Ayurveda follows a holistic approach and comprises of three main concepts – “Ahar” (food which can be utilized as a preventive medicine), “Chikitsa” (self-support and care) and “Nidana” (Treatment).
Loss of hair is believed to be due to “pitta” dosha. Governance of digestion and metabolism is done by Pitta. A healthy body is a result of a balanced pitta and once the reasons for pitta dosha is identified; it is easier to perform any correction. Usually anxiety, stress and bad eating habits lead to pitta dosha, which in turn causes hair loss. Other than Pitta dosha, other Ayurvedic reasons for loss of hair include consumption of intoxicating substances, improper diet, dandruff, hormonal imbalances and fungal infections.
