When you come positive in a pregnancy test, it is one of the best feelings you can have. You are ecstatic about becoming a mother and feel increasingly affectionate towards your unborn baby. Therefore, on suffering a miscarriage, you undergo an emotional roller coaster of anger, dejection, depression, sadness and become increasingly aloof from the rest of your surroundings. But staying positive in spite of this emotional turbulence is the only way out of this situation. Even healthcare experts and doctors suggest staying positive, so that it doesn’t harm future aspects and chances of pregnancy.

While it is easier said than done, let us see some of the ways by which you can stay positive in this situation-

  1. Stop blaming yourself for the miscarriage. The reason is – you don’t really have the control over what is happening inside your body.
  2. It is very important to take care of yourself physically and emotionally. Keep faith in yourself and believe that there is always a second chance. This will infuse you with optimism which is very important at this stage.
  3. You may find it hard to be around friends and relatives who are pregnant or have babies. If it feels too painful to see them, give yourself permission not to visit. Also, think about how you feel before accepting any invitations to a baby shower, baptism, or first birthday party.
  4. Pursue your hobby or do whatever you like to beat anxiety and depression. Do light exercises, make friends, read or sing; remember, you need to come out of that vicious emotional cycle.

If the above measures fail, undergo counselling. This is one of the proven ways to beat emotional burden.

Most importantly, stay away from people who can make you feel guilty for the miscarriage. Surrounding yourself with positive people will infuse a positive energy in you. That way, you will find yourself happily ready for a second chance.
