A general anxiety disorder is normally referred to as a psychological disorder which is indicated by abnormal and excessive anxiety. You can be anxious regarding a lot of things such as your work, relationships or financial issues.
General anxiety disorder can turn chronic, and you can begin to worry about things which are basically unrealistic. People who suffer from this particular psychological disorder tend to become anxious easily and generally tend to worry about things without any apparent reason.
How do you know whether you have generalized anxiety disorder
General Anxiety disorder is generally detected when an individual is unable to control his/her anxiety more often than not. It generally lasts for around six to seven weeks and during this time, the individual tends to be overly concerned about family, health, money and various other issues.
General anxiety disorder is generally characterized by symptoms such as:
- Sleep disturbance and being unable to sleep at all
- A restless feeling
- Getting irritated easily
- Difficulty in concentrating and getting easily fatigued after normal physical exercise
- Tension in the muscles after moderate physical activities
There is a gradual onset of the disease and can happen anytime during the entire life cycle. The risk of developing general anxiety disorder is generally highest during childhood and adolescence and can sometimes carry on to the middle ages. People who are suffering from this particular disorder might understand that they are worrying for all the wrong reasons and still not stop worrying. Generally, it has been observed that women tend to suffer more from general anxiety disorder in comparison to men.
The exact cause of General Anxiety disorder is not yet identified, but a number of factors have known to cause this particular disorder. The principal factors which have been identified include:
- Family background
- Biological factors or stressful life experiences
People who are suffering from this particular disease mildly can function properly in their day to day life as well as work. However, people who have an acute condition of General Anxiety Disorder can face various difficulties in their day to day lives and need immediate psychiatric help and counseling.
