Hair Fall – Can Acupuncture Help?

By Dr. Radhika A (Md),Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese system of medicine. It is believed that when the life force known as ‘qi’ becomes imbalanced, illnesses occur. Blood flow is stimulated by inserting needles into various pressure points in the body so that ‘qi’ is balanced. Acupuncture can be used to treat all forms of hair loss in both men and women. Acupuncture helps treat hair loss by helping blood flow to the scalp which will increase the hair follicles’ nourishment. Here is everything you need to know about treating hair loss with qi.

Techniques of Acupuncture.

Unlike the stereotype, not all acupuncture involves using fine needles. There is an alternative to using those fine needles on your pressure points. Here are all the techniques which practitioners of acupuncture use:

1. Thin Needles:

This is the conventional method in which thin needles are inserted into various pressure points so that blood flow is stimulated.

2. Seven-Star Hammer:

Your acupuncturist may use a small, hammer-like tool with multiple small needles coming out of it. This tool is the seven-star hammer. It works when you gently tap on it.

3. Plum Blossom Needle:

A plum blossom needle is very similar to the seven-star hammer.

Supplements, Herbs and Diet-

In addition to the traditional insertion of needles or the tapping of the seven-star hammer there are changes in your diet or herbs which need to be taken along with this treatment to make it effective. The herb astragalus is one of the most effective herbs for this.
