Winters are the perfect time to start a new fitness regimen if your current one is not working as planned. With New Year approaching, you may as well enforce a diet and health resolution for you to follow. Here are five simple tricks to losing weight this winter.
• Eat according to the weather
With the chilly winds blowing outside, you may not feel like digging into a cold bowl of salad. Well, you do not need to. In fact, in winters, you have many choices when it comes to vegetables. Use these veggies to whip up a bowl of hot soup, which is both healthy and will satiate your hunger. You can further enhance the taste of the soup using spices.
• Include fats in your diet
You may find it strange that to lose weight you need to consume a healthy portion of fats each day. However, several types of research indicate that certain fats help your body absorb nutrition from other foods. Furthermore, healthy fats are vital to maintaining proper levels of vitamins A, D and E. However, keep in mind that you should only consume healthy fats, namely polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats. Almonds, olive oil, green olives, fish and coconut oil are some of the richest sources of such fats.
• Give in to sugar cravings
Everyone likes to have sweets occasionally. However, foods with processed sugars are to be avoided at all cost. Instead, when you crave something sweet, pick foods that are full of natural sugars. Sweet potatoes, beets and pumpkins are the best sources of such natural sweetness in this season. Eating these foods will ensure you stay away from unhealthy sweets.
Maintaining a perfect sleep cycle is especially important in the winters. Since the days are shorter, make sure you go to bed in the early evenings, so that you can get up just as dawn approaches. This will ensure you savour every ounce of the sunlight and keep a sunny disposition throughout the rest of the day.
While these are some winter specific things you should do to ensure weight loss in the season make sure you stay hydrated throughout the day. If your digestion works perfectly, you are more likely to lose weight.
