IVF or In-Vitro Fertilisation is one of the commonest methods of Artificial Reproduction Technology.  A decade back, this technology wasn’t so talked about because of the lack of knowledge regarding this process. However, recently the overwhelming results of this technology has increased the demand for it in the market, for couples who are unable to conceive children naturally.

In-Vitro Fertilisation is a method where the eggs of the women are extracted and are fused with male sperm under laboratory conditions, and after fusion, the embryo is planted back in the uterus for further development. The remaining zygotes are then frozen and will be used if the first try is unsuccessful.

In this article, you will learn about some of the facts surrounding IVF and the things no one tells you about.

1. It Takes Longer Than Expected -
IVF takes a long time to be processed because of the tests and the preparation a woman has to go through before the process. It takes at least one week to get the tests done, which include blood tests, hormonal tests, ultrasound and thyroid tests. After the tests are done, hormonal shot sessions begin. This takes at least around two weeks, where the woman has to take hormone shots every day for at least 10-12 days.

After the embryos are extracted, they go for genetic testing, which takes at least one week. After that, it takes one month before these embryos are planted inside the woman’s uterus.

2. There’s No Guarantee -
One of the most important things one should know regarding IVF is that there’s no guarantee, though this is one of the most successful artificial reproduction methods, the success rate is not very exemplary.  The success of IVF doesn’t depend on the competence of the doctor or the clinic, it depends on a number of factors like health and the age of the woman. The success rate of IVF decreases as the age of the women increases. The highest percentage recorded is 47% success rate for women belonging to an age group of 30 or below.

3. IVF Can Cause Issues Regarding Mental Health -
The process of IVF can take a toll on both the man and the woman, as it is a stressful event. The anticipation of results alone makes the couple stress a lot. Some of the tests are also very invasive, and so is the process of extraction and insertion of zygotes. This invasive nature of this process can make women feel uncomfortable. Apart from this, hormone boosts can also cause mood swings and uneasiness.

Conclusion: Though IVF is an effective process, there are always complications to it. It is important to be aware of such complications as well as the correct facts around the process so that there isn’t disappointment down the line. So one should always consult a doctor before going for this process.
