Acne refers to a hormonal condition that generally plagues boys and girls in their teen age. Apart from the male hormone, it is also triggered by the bacteria present in the skin and the fatty acids that constitute the oil glands. The condition is characterized by the eruption of spots all over the face, back and the shoulders. Though it may seemingly appear harmless, if untreated it tends to persist for years before settling down. According to research, multiple factors contribute to the development of acne. Some of them are-
- Sensitivity to Hormones:
Acne is primarily a hormonal condition that is triggered by the male hormone, androgen. Any individual who is sensitive to this hormone along with the bacteria present in the skin is most susceptible to the eruption of acne.
- Unstable Hormone Levels:
Generally girls in their puberty tend to fall prey to acne most often. The reason behind this is the instability of hormone that occurs during puberty or menstruation which contributes to the development of the condition.
- Certain Types of Clothing:
Apart from internal factors, even external elements contribute to the eruption of acne. According to studies, donning certain clothing materials or head gears can have similar effect on the skin.

Despite the common occurrence of this condition, many remedial measures have developed to combat this. Some of them are-

- Benzoyl Peroxide:
This is one of the most trusted and accepted forms of treatment for acne. Doctors almost always prescribe medications which have benzoyl as one of their ingredients to combat acne.
