Fad Diets & Their Consequences On Health!

Are you looking for a diet to lose weight on the internet? While proper diet and exercise are important factors for staying fit and healthy, you should not believe everything you read online. In fact, if you follow fad diets, you have greater chances of causing harm to your health than any good.

Fad diets are harmful because most of these diets focus on weight loss, but not on the overall health of a person. Here are some fad diets and their effects on your health you should know about:

  1. Juice diet: A juice diet or juice cleanse is a popular diet where you will have to sustain yourself on fruit juices. The degree of the juice diet may vary from one person to the next. You may be asked to substitute one meal with only juices or to stay on a juice-based diet for 3-10 days.

    However, following this diet does more harm than good. Firstly, fruit juices do not contain any fibre as compared to whole fruit. Additionally, sustaining yourself on only fruit juices will limit nutrition for your body.

  2. Intermittent Fasting: Intermittent fasting diets do not necessarily alter the foods that you eat but include increasing the gap between two meals. For some, the gap between two meals may range up to 16 hours, followed by 8 hours of normal eating. Others fast for an entire day and eat normally the next day. However, research suggests that people engaged in intermittent fasting are much likely to indulge in overeating.

    This fad diet can also lead to poor sleep at night, which has a range of long-term effects on your body. Lack of nutrients and loss of muscle mass are also common adverse effects that you may face if you rely on an intermittent fasting diet.

  3. Keto diets: In a keto diet, healthy fat intake is increased, while carbohydrate intake is reduced or done away with. This diet may work for the short-term, but sticking to it for a longer duration can severely harm your body. You need to remember that human bodies require carbohydrates and glucose to function properly. However, since you keto diet restricts carbohydrate intake, your body will undergo ketosis.

    During ketosis, your body will start to lose muscle mass along with fats. If you want to stick to a keto diet, make sure you do so under medical supervision. You should also avoid sticking to it for prolonged periods.

While the internet may help you learn many things every day, do not rely on what you read online when it comes to your health.
